How It Works

A Manhattan Print Shop Built Around Your Deadline

VSL Print is a family-owned commercial printer founded in 2009 and based in NYC, with every press, cutter, and bindery line running under one roof. Keeping offset, digital, large format, and finishing in a single facility is what lets us turn rush work around quickly and hold one team accountable for the finished piece from file to delivery. We are also G7-calibrated, which means our presses are calibrated to a shared gray-balance standard so the color you approve on a proof is the color you get on the run — and the color you get again the next time you reprint.

Choosing a printing process starts with three questions: how many pieces do you need, what stocks and inks does the design call for, and how soon do you need it. For short runs, time-sensitive jobs, and anything with variable data — personalized mailers, numbered tickets, name-specific cards — digital is usually the right call because there are no plates and no make-ready, so we can print one piece or a few thousand on a fast rush timeline. For larger quantities, the economics flip: offset carries an up-front plate and setup cost, but the per-unit price falls steeply as volume grows, and it unlocks the widest range of stocks, spot and metallic inks, and sheet sizes up to 28" x 40". Large format is its own category, purpose-built for signage, banners, displays, and wraps measured in feet rather than inches.

Stocks & Papers

We keep a deep range of coated and uncoated papers on hand — gloss, silk, satin, and matte. Text weights typically run 80# to 100# for brochures and catalog interiors, while covers and cards span 80# cover up to 16pt and 18pt for business cards, postcards, and folders. Premium uncoated options include felt, linen, and laid finishes, and we can match a brand standard or a physical sample before the run.

Inks & Color

Full-color CMYK covers most work, and offset lets us add spot colors, metallics, and fluorescents for brand-critical hues that four-color process cannot reach. Large format uses UV-cured and latex inks rated for both indoor display and outdoor durability. Our G7 color standards calibration keeps neutrals clean and color consistent across digital and offset, so a piece looks the same whether it runs today or six months from now.

Finishing & Bindery

Coatings range from gloss and matte aqueous to soft-touch and spot UV. Specialty effects include foil stamping, embossing, debossing, edge painting, scoring, and precision die-cutting. For multi-page work we offer saddle stitching, perfect binding, and wire-O, all finished in-house so nothing ships out mid-job and turnaround stays tight.

Print Projects We Produce Every Week

Our clients range from individual founders to brands you know — Porsche, Belvedere Vodka, Touchland, Gucci, and Meta's Ray-Ban team among them — and we have a long history with Broadway and theater productions across the city. We were also featured on CNBC's The Profit with Marcus Lemonis. In practice, that breadth means we handle a wide mix of everyday and high-touch work:

Business cards, including foil, embossed, and edge-painted finishes
Brochures, flyers, postcards, and direct-mail campaigns
Catalogs, lookbooks, magazines, and annual reports
Posters, window graphics, and retail point-of-sale displays
Trade show banners, backdrops, and booth signage
Folders, presentation kits, and branded sales collateral
Event programs, invitations, and theater playbills
Packaging components, hang tags, and custom inserts

Whatever the format, the workflow is the same: send press-ready files or let our in-house design team build and check them, approve a proof, and we print, finish, and deliver. Because design, direct mail, and binding all run under one roof, you can order everything in one place — from a fast batch of business cards to a full catalog program — and standard products are easy to start on a rush timeline. If you are weighing digital against offset, unsure which stock suits your design, or racing a tight deadline, call us at 646-843-0800 or request a quote today and we will map out the fastest, most cost-effective path for your job.

VSL Print offers three main types of commercial printing: digital printing for short runs and quick turnaround, offset printing for high-volume jobs requiring Pantone color matching, and large format printing for signage, banners, and displays. All printing is done in-house at our Manhattan facility.

Standard digital business cards are among our fastest products, and rush service is available for most business card orders. Specialty finishes like foil stamping, embossing, or die cutting add production steps, so we confirm the schedule with your quote.

Yes, VSL Print offers Pantone color matching and can match any color in the Pantone Solid Coated and Uncoated libraries. We also offer metallic and fluorescent Pantone inks. Our G7-calibrated facility ensures consistent, accurate color reproduction.

Our large-format printers handle oversized banners and wraps with virtually unlimited length. This includes banners, building wraps, trade show displays, and vehicle graphics. We use UV-cured and latex inks suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Yes, VSL Print provides professional installation services throughout NYC and the tri-state area. Our installation team handles building signs, window graphics, wall murals, vehicle wraps, and trade show booth setup. Having printing and installation in-house ensures quality control from design through final installation.

We accept PDF (preferred), AI, EPS, PSD, INDD, and TIFF files. For best results, submit press-ready PDFs with fonts outlined, images at 300 DPI minimum, and 0.125" bleed. Our prepress team can also prepare files and provide proofs before printing.

Digital printing images directly from your file to the press, so there are no plates and no setup charge, which makes it efficient and cost-effective for runs from 1 to a few thousand pieces and for variable-data jobs where every piece is unique. Offset printing transfers ink from etched plates to a rubber blanket and then to paper, so it carries a plate and make-ready cost up front but the per-unit price drops sharply as quantity climbs, typically becoming the better value above roughly 1,000 to 2,500 pieces. Offset also supports the widest range of stocks, spot and metallic inks, and very large sheet sizes. For most projects the deciding factors are quantity, the stocks and inks you need, and how tight your timeline is, and we are glad to recommend the more economical route for your specific job.

We stock a broad range of coated and uncoated papers in gloss, silk, satin, and matte finishes. Common text weights run from 80# to 100# for brochures and catalog pages, while cover and card stocks range from 80# cover up to 16pt and 18pt for business cards, postcards, and folders. We also carry premium uncoated and textured options such as felt, linen, and laid finishes, plus heavier specialty boards for invitations and packaging. If you have a brand standard or a sample you want matched, send it over and we will pull stocks for you to compare before the run.

Because finishing and bindery stay under our roof, we can combine effects without shipping work out. Coatings include gloss and matte aqueous, soft-touch and spot UV. Specialty finishing covers foil stamping, embossing, debossing, edge painting, scoring, and precision die-cutting on our digital cutting tables. For multi-page work we offer saddle stitching, perfect binding, wire-O, and folding in every standard configuration. Keeping these steps in-house shortens turnaround and keeps a single team accountable for the finished piece.

Build your document at final trim size with 0.125" bleed on every edge and keep important text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim as a safe margin. Set color to CMYK for full-color work and call out any specific spot colors by their swatch name so we can match them on press. Place raster images at 300 DPI or higher at final size, outline or embed all fonts, and export a single press-ready PDF with crop marks. If you are unsure about any of this, our prepress team will review your files and flag issues before we print, and we can supply a hard or soft proof for approval.

Yes. We regularly produce ongoing programs for brands and agencies, including business-card sets for growing teams, recurring catalogs and lookbooks, event collateral, and packaging components. Because all production is in-house, we can hold your approved templates and brand colors on file, reprint on demand, and keep color consistent from one run to the next. For high-volume work we plan press time and stock in advance so deadlines stay predictable even during busy seasons.
