Finishing Services — Embossing
Embossing Services NYC
Raise your brand. Literally.
Custom embossing and debossing on paper, leather, metal, and fabric. In-house production at our Manhattan facility with rush turnaround available.

Embossing Techniques
Six distinct processes — each producing a different depth of texture, level of detail, and visual effect.

Blind Emboss
A raised design with no ink or foil — the material itself creates the impression. Elegant and understated, blind embossing lets texture do the talking. Ideal for luxury stationery, book covers, and high-end packaging.

Foil Emboss
Metallic or pigmented foil applied simultaneously with an embossed raise. The result is a design that catches light while also projecting dimensionally from the surface — one of the most premium finishes in print.

Multi-Level Emboss
Multiple die plates create varying heights within a single design, producing dramatic three-dimensional relief. Perfect for complex logos, architectural illustrations, and premium brand marks.

Sculptured Emboss
Hand-crafted dies with finely beveled contours produce a sculpted, bas-relief effect with realistic depth and shadow. The highest form of embossing craftsmanship — reserved for the most distinctive brand materials.

Debossing
The inverse of embossing — the design is pressed into the material creating a recessed impression. Debossing on leather, thick paper, and board stock produces a clean, tactile mark that communicates quality.

Combination Stamping
Foil stamping and embossing combined in a single pass. Elements can be split — some areas receive foil only, others emboss only, and key elements get both. Maximum visual and tactile impact.

Materials We Emboss
Different materials require different dies, pressures, and techniques. We have the experience and equipment to work with a wide range of substrates.
Paper & Cardstock
From 80 lb text to 32 pt board, we emboss on the full range of uncoated and coated stocks. Heavier weights hold detail better and are recommended for most embossing work.
Leather & Faux Leather
We emboss genuine leather, bonded leather, and PU/faux leather goods. Custom dies allow precise logos, monograms, and patterns at exact placement. One of our most requested services.
Metal & Foil Board
Metallic papers and foil boards take embossing beautifully, creating mirrored relief designs. Popular for premium packaging, gift boxes, and ultra-luxury stationery.
Fabric & Canvas
Book cloth, linen, and woven fabrics respond well to embossing for book covers, binders, and premium packaging. The texture of the fabric adds a second layer of tactile interest.
What We Emboss
Embossing elevates print and product across virtually every category.

How the embossing process works
Every embossing project starts with artwork review and die fabrication. Our team examines line weights, detail levels, and material compatibility before cutting the die — catching potential issues before they become costly mistakes.
Artwork Review
We review your vector file for embossability — checking detail, line weight, and registration requirements.
Die Fabrication
A custom magnesium or brass die is fabricated to the exact specifications of your artwork.
Makeready & Proof
We run a press makeready on your material, adjust pressure and registration, and pull a physical proof for approval.
Production Run
Full production run with quality checks throughout. Rush jobs move to the front of the production queue after art approval.
All embossing done in-house.
No vendor markup.
Many print shops outsource embossing to specialty vendors — adding days, markup, and a communication gap to your project. At VSL Print, embossing, foil stamping, die cutting, and laminating are all under one roof in our Manhattan facility. You work directly with the people running the equipment.

Embossing raises the design above the surface of the material. Debossing presses the design into the material, creating a recessed impression. Both add tactile dimension; the choice depends on the aesthetic you want.
Yes — foil embossing applies metallic foil and raises the design simultaneously. It is one of the most premium finishes available, ideal for business cards, certificates, and packaging.
We confirm the embossing schedule with your quote after artwork approval, and rush turnaround is available. Because all embossing is done in-house at our Manhattan facility, we have direct control over scheduling.
Yes. We produce custom dies for every embossing project. Die costs vary by size and complexity. For repeat orders the die can be stored and reused, reducing cost on future runs.
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are required for embossing die production. Artwork must have clean, closed paths. Our design team can help prepare or refine files at an additional fee.
